Sudden Rise in Home Demand Takes Builders by Surprise

 

Catherine Rampell examines the ultra low inventory of new homes for sale in her article in the New York Times.    "Across the country, the raw number of homes for sale is at its lowest level since 1999, according to the National Association of Realtors...It’s kind of a Catch-22...as long as large numbers of people are hesitant to put their own homes on the market because so few other homes are available, he said, there won’t be many homes available.  Read more here...

1650 Wewatta Breaks Ground

Earth moving has begun!

1650 Wewatta is the 21-story apartment building under construction at the corner of 17th and Wewatta, immediately adjacent to the Commuter Rail Train Hall behind Union Station. The project represents about one-third of what’s called the “A” Block development site at Union Station, an L-shaped parcel located between Wewatta and the historic station from 16th to 17th streets. It will provide 288 apartment units to the Union Station Neighborhood.  1650 Wewatta will anchor the part of the “L” closest to the 17th Street spine of the DUS transit district. Two additional components of the “A” Block, office and hotel projects, will eventually complete the parcel.

"After leading 17 walking tours of the Denver Union Station project in 2012, I decided to take a break over the past few months. However, I’m now ready to get our 2013 tours underway. There is a LOT going on at Denver Union Station, so 2013 should be a fun year and the last full year of construction before the project opens in 2014! Mark your calendars forSaturday, March 16 at 10:00 AM for our first tour of the new year. A few days before then, I’ll post an official tour notice here on the blog.

Over the course of 2013, I’ll aim to do two tours a month, usually the first and third Saturdays of the month. However, as always, check the DenverInfill blog on Monday or Tuesday of the week in question for a post confirming the next tour date and time. Again this year, the tours are free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted at the end of the tour, with all proceeds going to the non-profit Student Chapter of the American Planning Association at the University of Colorado Denver."
